Presentation

This First Cycle of Studies in Basic Education aims to enable future graduates to:

– Develop a critical and reflective attitude towards the challenges, processes and performance of the daily professional life of teachers in – Early Childhood Education and the 1st and 2nd Cycles of Basic Education;
– Understand the complexity of educational processes, particularly the teaching and learning processes of children up to the age of 12;
– Develop knowledge in the scientific areas of teaching, viewed in an articulated and dynamic way and as being capable of being taught and learned;
– Develop skills in the field of observation, analysis, evaluation and reflection on educational practices and contexts;
– Design and develop educational projects and resources, in school and non-school contexts, mobilising collaborative and creative processes;
– Develop problem-solving skills in the field of Basic Education, based on the reasoning behind ideas and procedures and the communication of results.

Career Opportunities

Graduates in Basic Education can apply for one of the following second cycles of studies leading to a master’s degree, which qualify them to teach in the respective specialities: Pre-school Education, Primary Education, Pre-school Education and Primary Education, and Primary and Secondary Education.

Graduates in Basic Education can work in the following areas:

– Integration into educational services in public and private entities;
– Integration into multidisciplinary teams with educational support and cooperation functions within and outside the educational system;
– Design, production and development of educational resources;
– Support for the development of educational and research projects;
– Organisation of events and activities for the age groups covered by the degree.
