Ethics and Sport
Presentation
This course aims to stimulate and deepen reflection and operationalization concerning values and ethics in sport.
It intends to contribute to the training of professionals of diverse backgrounds, but with professional activity in the sports field, promoting the acquisition of reflection and intervention skills that allow weighting and decision making on specific issues associated with their professional context.
In this sense, the course presents a more theoretical/reflective dimension (1st semester), where an analysis and criticism centred on the scientific contextualization of sports standards, values and symbols is stimulated, as a social fact in a biopsychosocial paradigm, taking into account the development of principles and fundamentals, of codes and norms in observable practices.
It also shows a more operational/practical dimension (2nd semester) based on the pedagogical, didactic and methodological action characteristic of physical and sports activities, stimulating criticism and reflection on the operationalization of ethics and values in sport, and on their development in the different contexts of professional intervention.
Thus, the objective is to develop a solid training that allows for interpretative skills on ethics and deontology in sport and complementary interventional skills, enabling a more enriched multidisciplinary approach of professionals’ basic intervention.
The development of a reflective and critical attitude is also sought, which is decisive for the improvement of self-training processes and for the innovation and optimization of one’s intervention, this being fundamental for the increase of professional excellence.
Still relevant in this context is the development of knowledge that allows for the implementation of strategic plans and policies defined or promoted by different institutions at national, regional and local levels.
