This bachelor’s course in Basic Education prepares students to be able to:
- Understand the complexity of educational processes, in particular the teaching and learning processes of children up to 12 years old;
- Acquire knowledge within the scientific areas of teaching in an articulated and dynamic way, so they can be taught and learned;
- Develop observation, analysis, evaluation and reflection competences on educational practices and contexts;
- Develop problem-solving skills in the basic education field, based on the rationale of ideas and procedures and on the communication of results.

Career Opportunities
Graduates in Basic Education can exercise professional functions in the following areas:
- Integration in educational services of public and private entities;
- Integration in multidisciplinary teams with educational functions of support and cooperation inside and outside the educational system;
- Conception, production and development of educational resources;
- Support for the development of educational and research projects;
- Organization of events and animations for the age groups covered by the degree.
Graduates in Basic Education can also apply for one of the following second cycles of studies leading to a master’s degree that qualifies for teaching in the respective areas of expertise: (i) Pre-School Education; (ii) Primary School Teaching; (iii) Pre-School Education and Primary School Teaching; and (iv) Primary School Teaching and Teaching in Basic Schooling (5th and 6th grades).
