Performing Arts Production

Presentation

The Higher Technical Professional Course (CTeSP) in Performing Arts Production is part of a new type of short-term higher education, corresponding to an educational offer of a professional nature, placed at level 5 of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning.

Through this course two important objectives will be achieved: (i) to privilege students’ rapid integration into the labour market; ii) to allow the continuation of studies, keeping a direct connection to the first cycle of higher education (bachelor’s degree).

This course aims at training professionals with technical-artistic skills, capable of promoting cultural/artistic intervention projects with diverse functions in a production context, either autonomously or by integrating multidisciplinary work teams. Thus, the training profile is based on an interdisciplinary perspective, compatible with the current demands in the performing arts, giving students analysis and artistic creation techniques adjusted to the work in diversified areas, which contemplate the application of multidisciplinary concepts and practices.

Having this in mind, the student is expected to be able to plan, design and execute projects that value the performative action, legitimizing the expectations of the labour market, as well as the continuation of more in-depth studies in terms of research and theorization in this area.

Thus, it is fundamental:

  • to promote and encourage recreational, artistic and cultural activities concerning the production of events in the performing arts, adjusted to the context they are inserted in (theatres, museums, cultural centres, open air spaces, etc.);
  • to manage and coordinate cultural programmes in interconnection with the surrounding community, based on local and regional cultural promotion;
  • to implement the production of artistic and cultural events by articulating structures, processes, equipment and active means of participation;
  • to design cultural programmes and actions to promote the artistic heritage in the interchange between entities and the public;
  • to develop (as author, producer or collaborator) cultural and artistic projects that consolidate practices (interpretation, performance and artistic creation) with technical knowledge (light, sound, image, scenery and costumes);
  • to promote artistic and cultural intervention strategies particularly flexible and adaptable to the different segments of the public, as a response to new imperatives of the show society.
